Fertility investigations for the subfertile couple

Investigations after 6 months of trying to conceive are recommended in cases where the woman is over 35 years old or has a history of oligo – amenorrhea, polycystic ovaries, diseased fallopian tubes or endometriosis, treatment with radiation or chemotherapy, male partner with a fertility problem.
The basic fertility investigations include:
• semen analysis
• hormonal screening
• assessment of ovaries
• transvaginal ultrasound to examine fallopian tubes and uterus
• hysterosalpingography or, alternatively, hysteroscopy simultaneously with laparoscopy
